When Brochures and Photos are just not enough..

SmartOtels are on a mission to visit all of the client resorts and hotels, which we represent for sales and marketing in the UK. Yesterday, Joaquin and Matthew landed in Manila, the Philippines to continue that, following on from Joaquin’s extensive tour of Amaya Resorts and Spas and The Kingsbury Hotel in Sri Lanka in May.  Setting off on a tour of the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia might sound like a great “jolly” but visiting and re-visiting the resorts and hotels, which we represent for sales and marketing is a very important part of that representation.

Joaquin explained:  “We regularly make presentations in clients’ offices.  When product managers, agents and even direct clients know that we have personally experienced a resort and the area where it is – the destination – it enables us to answer questions we might be challenged by otherwise but also makes the presentation more credible.  Being able to answer from personal experience shows that we know what we are promoting, in detail.  Spending a few days personally experiencing a resort enables us to do an even better job for them.”

This is the first trip, aside from ITB Berlin, that Joaquin and Matthew have undertaken together and it is helped by the fact that Matthew’s wife is from the Philippines – giving SmartOtels a base in Manila to work from, ahead of trips to Huma Island Resort & Spa, Palawan, Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa, Palawan, Hotel Penaga, George Town and Jakarta, Indonesia, as well as a few other places we cannot spell out just now.

Matthew said: “Knowing the Philippines pretty well from my many previous visits is really helpful but this time we are going on business, and that makes it quite different.  I shall be seeing some destinations in the Philippines as well as in Malaysia and Indonesia for the first time and that’s exciting as well as being great to know that we will know the resorts and the destinations so much better when we come back.”

SmartOtels has had great help in organising the trip from our friends at Philippines Airlines and from the Philippines Department of Tourism here in London as well as from Manila-based friends, such as Sonia Lazo from INTAS, one of the best known destination management companies.  We are very grateful indeed for all of the help we have had.
